Hello all,

I would like to create an Access session group to show all sessions that have had no activity since say one month, to identify "dead" computers or client software having trouble to connect.
Is there any way to do this?
I suspect the GuestLastActivityTime property would be involved, but I don't see how to compare it with "now".

As a side note, I don't quite understand how the $otheror (and $other) work. Can someone point me to some documentation ?

Thanks for any help,

RVa.

The problem with GuestLastActivityTime is that it cannot compare the value against a dynamic variable, meaning you have to hard-code the date. For example, to get the machines that have not had activity in the last 30 days, you would have to reference the date 30 days ago like:

Code:

GuestLastActivityTime < '2015-03-01'

There are a few caveats about how the value is stored that I've gone over here.

We don't really have any specific documentation about $OTHEROR and $OTHERAND, but I can briefly go over their functions. $OTHEROR is basically an 'OR' separated list of all session group filters while $OTHERAND is an 'AND' separated list. It's probably easier to explain with an example so I'm just going to use exactly what's in my sandbox install currently. I have two session groups where the filters are set to:

TestOrganization: CustomProperty1 LIKE 'TEST'

TestName: Name LIKE 'Rio'

And I have two sessions, one named Rio with CustomProperty1 set to TEST and another named VWINXP with CustomPropert1 set to TEST. Currently, both sessions are displayed in group titled TestOrganization and only Rio is in TestName group.

If I create another session group and set the filter to $OTHERAND, then only Rio will display there because $OTHERAND is the AND separated list of all other session group filters, so it technically looks like:

(CustomProperty1 LIKE 'TEST') AND (Name LIKE 'Rio')

If I create a group and set the filter to $OTHEROR, then it will display both sessions because it's an OR separated list of filters that looks like:

(CustomProperty1 LIKE 'TEST') OR (Name LIKE 'Rio')

I guess the main benefit of either variable is you can create a session group that will display any session that is not already sorted into another group with:

NOT $OTHEROR

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

I'm indeed using "not $otheror" for the purpose you describe.

The thing is I also have a group for all access sessions where a host is connected, so when I connect to a client listed in the "not $otheror" group, it disappears of the group for the duration of the session.

But that's something I can easily live with!

Thanks again,

RVa.

Any update on this at all? There appears to be a counter for this already that displays the "Idle" time counter, why can't I just compare against that if it was exposed as a property? I would think I could just do GuestIdleTime > "30:00:00" or similar

This has risen in priority over the last few months as some of our bigger projects are closing. We don't have an ETA, but development will probably be looking at this the first half of the new year, as this issue is directly related to a bigger enhancement. I'll be sure to add your support to the issue.

I would like to add my +1 as well. This would be really handy to get an idea of which computers were disconnected. I rebuild machines pretty regularly and they just sit out there idle until I happen to notice them with large idle times. Having a search for time in days or hours idle would be great...

Do you have any new details about this?

Feature requests are logged and tracked on our user echo site. Here are two related requests. Both items are being considered, but have not been scheduled for a release.:
