Automatic ScreenConnect .EXE File rename tool-

UserPostedImage

This has been tested on 4.x, Should work on 3.x as well.
This can only be used on ScreenConnect that has not previously been renamed.

Windows Instructions:

1) Stop all three screenconnect services
2) Download and run the SC_Custom.exe file as admin. (MAKE SURE TO RUN AS ADMIN!)
3) Enter the path to your installation folder in the "ScreenConnect Path". (eg. C:\Program Files (x86)\ScreenConnect\ with the trailing ])
4) Enter your new EXE name and click "Rename It!"
5) Re-start ScreenConnect services

This should also work for linux installs..
Stop the service before completing this..
Download the following files to a folder:

.\web.config
.\Script.Launch.js
.\Service.ashx
\Bin\Elsinore.ScreenConnect.Client.exe
\Bin\Elsinore.ScreenConnect.Client.zip
\Bin\Elsinore.ScreenConnect.ClientSetup.exe
\Bin\Elsinore.ScreenConnect.ClientSetup.msi

And change the ScreenConnect path to the folder containing these files.. Rename it, and re-upload them

Thank you so much for this tool. While it seems that the files have been rename after using the tool, when I try to create an unattended.exe file nothing happens when I click on download. Did I miss a step?

Thanks

Not sure, it's working fine- Just re-tested it and and both unattended, and support works with the custom file name.

Apparently Screenconnect has an official way of accomplishing this, but you have to do something with a Code Signing Certificate.

@rpope904, can you tell me if the executable fail the signature check after the rename? I'm trying to figure out how you can accomplish this so "easily" while the "official" way of doing this is so complex.

I haven't had any issues with it failing check- I am going to look into the other post further, and see if it's something that is necessary, or how it'd help and if I can somehow semi-automate it into this program.

Worked on a quick test on my own system. Seems to be working but, just checking, when I check the Bin folder, only 4 files were renamed (2 exes, 1 zip, 1 msi). There's about 20 that weren't. Should that be correct?
UserPostedImage

Edit: Tried running it again (yes, as Admin) but I'm getting a bunch of "Unable to complete, Did you run as admin?" messages which eventually stop. I also tried stopping the SC host services but that didn't help.

I have the same issue as PromptCare. Lots of errors, 4 files renamed.

The issue afterwards is that If I try to create the installer, nothing happens when I click "Download Installer" within Screenconnect.

I also am unable to change the path.. I am logged in as Admin on the server.

Any help would be appreciated.

Will need to re-upload shortly, There are only 4 files needing to be renamed under bin for this to work. For the other errors, they are attempting to write to the config files with the changes. It appears that during the quick compile of this I didn't take the read-only off of the path.. I will do that, change to the correct install path and run as admin and it'll write it correctly. I should have this within a couple of hours, it's on my laptop at home.

Sorry to burst your bubble here, but this simply won't work.

The files and their respective names are code signed. Renaming the files is not a simple matter of batch renaming every instance of Elsinore.ScreenConnect.*.

The ClickOnce and Java applications used signed manifests. Any alterations (even a single character) will crash the installer completely.

You can rename the files, but you'll either need to use Elsinore's CLI script or MageUI which allows you to modify the application & deployment manifests and re-sign them using your own code signing certificate (you'll need to purchase this). You can't re-use Elsinore's cert, as you won't have access to it. They can't share it either, as that defeats the object of signed installers.

The reason the authors test is working is because you already have a valid manifest on your PC. If you flush the clickonce cache (rundll32 %windir%\system32\dfshim.dll CleanOnlineAppCache), ClickOnce will download and try to deploy the new manifest. Only then will it fail.

Sorry chaps.

That makes sense, Cresona. I had everything backed up anyway (as I hope anybody who tries this does). Signatures notwithstanding, I was also going to suggest the author put in an Undo feature into it.
