I followed the instructions to create a session group called "not in a group", but kept wondering why it kept showing a zero when I had clients that were not in a group. The session filter was correct: ISNULL(CustomProperty1,) so I was stumped.

Perhaps this post will help others, but I didn't realize that what that did was show clients with no group named in the agent install. Seems obvious right?

But what I was trying to actually get was clients that had a group named in the agent, but that I had not yet created a session group for. Example, let's say I onboarded a new business called ACME, installed my client on their computer using machine name + ACME as company name. Later I came back to my office and forgotten to add a group called ACME. With so many sessions listed, I would have never realized I'd already had a SC installed on their machine, and "not in a group" would show zero, because the agent on their machine already had ACME in it. I just never created an ACME group to match.

I want to create a new session group, let's call it "Orphaned". The session filter will instead of showing blank CustomProperty1's, will show sessions that can have a CustomProperty1, but are not listed in any of the session groups (except All Machines). Referencing the session filter guide, I thought that NOT $OTHEROR might do the trick based on its description ("Sessions that are not in another session group") but that still shows my Orphaned group with 0 in it. (I have a test client with a company name that doesn't exist as a group name).

Is there a session filter that can do what I want?

thanks!

The easiest way to show any session that is not sorted into another session group is to use the following:

Code:

NOT $OTHEROR

As I'd mentioned in the OP, I did try that, but it still shows 0 machines.

Ah, sorry, I missed that completely.

How many session groups do you already have created? A ballpark count is fine.

I just sent an email to the address of your forum account with what I'd like to do next. We've been having some issues with our email recently, so if you don't receive it within 30ish minutes, please let me know.

Scott, not sure if you need to post an answer in here for others, or if the solution was on the back end? In any case, I now have your SC_Test_Box appearing in my Orphaned group, how do I remove it? Uninstall is grayed out. Thanks for your help as well!

You should be able to End it, I think I uninstalled the client software from that machine anyways.

Both End and Edit are grayed out, which I've not seen before.

Hmm, does your Role have both the permissions to EndSessions and EditSessions applying to Access sessions?

Okay I was trying to remove it using a Host role user. If I use my Administrator user, both End and Edit are not grayed out. I haven't changed any of the permissions, this is what my Host role shows:

EditSession: AllSessionGroups, OnlyOwned
EndSession: SupportSessionGroups, OwnedAndUnowned
EndSession: MeetingSessionGroups, OwnedAndUnowned

Is this what should be there by default?

Well, Access sessions don't have owners so in order to Edit any Access session, you'd have to add a new permission like:
Code:
EditSession: AllSessionGroups, OwnedAndUnowned

Also, by default as of 5.2, users do not have the ability to End sessions as the functionality caused too much confusion for newer users. You can just add the permission like:

Code:
EndSession: AccessSessionGroups, OwnedAndUnowned

I don't know what your solution was, but when I wanted to do the same, I created a Session Group called 'None of the above' with the filter as below, replacing Acme, Smith, Bloggs and Doe with real client names... the whole filter is probably 10 lines long because there are a lot of clients, but each time I add a new one, I just add a new AND CustomProperty1 NOT LIKE 'Newclient' at the end:

CustomProperty1 NOT Like 'Acme*' AND CustomProperty1 NOT Like 'Smith*' AND CustomProperty1 NOT LIKE 'Bloggs*' AND CustomProperty1 NOT LIKE 'Doe*'
