%COMPUTERNAME% doesn't seem to work when I use it with my unattended access installers...what gives?

We know, it doesn't work quite like Windows! Here’s some information regarding using environment variables, such as %COMPUTERNAME%, with Mac unattended access clients.

• This is the resource from the Mac Developer Library that describes creating environment variables using an environment.plist file: http://developer.apple.c...les/EnvironmentVars.html
• Instead of %COMPUTERNAME%, you could also try using the $HOSTNAME variable—that may work.
• Final option: create a different installer for each Mac computer

Addendum:

To set your own variable, open Terminal on your Mac and type the following:

Code:
sudo launchctl setenv COMPUTERNAME MyComputerName

Or, if your ComputerName has spaces in it, you would surround it in quotes:

Code:
sudo launchctl setenv COMPUTERNAME "My Computer Name"

You will need to reboot the Mac afterward, in order for this to get set.
