The Session Capture Processor extension is now available via the ConnectWise Control Extension Marketplace!

Download a utility that allows Control admins to download raw session capture files from their server and transcode them to AVI videos on their local machine. Requires Control 6.4+ and .NET 4.5+.

Install the extension on your instance of Control. From the Admin page, click your name at the bottom left corner of the window and select "Download Session Capture Processor".

Extract the zip file. Please maintain the extracted directory's file structure; the executable depends on the bundled dlls. Launch ControlSessionCaptureProcessor.exe:

Enter a date range to search for raw captures and enter your ConnectWise Control admin credentials. Click "Query Raw Captures" to generate a list of captures that fall within the specified date range:

Optionally change the download directory by clicking "Change" and selecting a new directory.

Select one or more raw captures to download.

Optionally check "Transcode after download" to transcode each raw capture file into an AVI file immediately after the download completes. You can always transcode previously downloaded raw capture files into AVI format by clicking "Choose Capture Files to Transcode" and selecting raw capture files on your local machine.

Click "Download Selected Captures" to begin downloading and optionally transcoding raw capture files. The result field on each row will be updated once the file downloads and optionally transcodes:

If you wish to transcode previously downloaded raw capture files, click "Choose Capture Files to Transcode" and select raw files to transcode. Click "Open" to begin transcoding one or more raw captures into AVI videos:

As always, please feel free to post any feedback you may have about this extension to this thread.

Cheers,
Ben

Wow, this is really what we needed.

Our Server is more then fast enough to host an awful lot of agents and ample sessions.
(2x Dual Core Xenon 5130, fast enough but not the right instruction set for decoding i guess)

However converting captures takes ages through that server.
(Above 4 minutes for a capture of 20 mb, on large files it actually just times out)

We won't have to buy a replacement server with better graphics/processor hardware now.

Thank you very very very much.

However I have one small issue, and two requests.

Problem :
It shows the dates as our date format (dd/mm/yyyy) if I run it through that selection the program crashes however.
I have to change it to mm/dd/yyyy format to work and not crash.

Request 1:
Is it possible to include the company name in the result (CustomProperty1)
We have loads of PC's with the same name, example servers named Server or Data, example pc named Office, OPG, RONTGEN, SURGERY in a lot of practices/offices.
This makes it very hard to see which session is which.

Request 2:
It would be very nice if the result could be sorted on a column so we can quickly selected all sessions for a certain PC or customer.

To be truthful I can live with the problem, and also without Request 2, but Request 1 would save an enormous amount of time.

Kind regards,
Erik

I just published version 1.1 of the Session Capture Processor, which resolves the issue described above.

You will need to update the extension on your instance of Control and re-download the utility.

We like to use this because of the batch downloading. But what is the time zone, it says UTC? But it doesn't match the UTC that screen connect is in. So in SC if the video has a timestamp of 6:50PM CST, that would then be 11:50PM UTC shown in any reports I download with other extensions (auditing in SC interface converts it to CST). But with the session capture processor the same video shows at 4:50 AM? UTC? Could you explain where this time comes from?

Also seems to be a bug I spotted was that duo 2 factor isn't working. It brings up the prompt but continually says the code is wrong when I accept the notification on my phone. I've tried entering the code as well. It just says incorrect code. I had to disable 2fa on my account to log into SCP

Thanks

Hi there,

I just tried using this, as the batch downloader has stopped working for me, and have a few comments/questions/feature requests.

1) Can you allow me to manually type in the download directory? I want to save to a network share, but I do not have it as visible when searching, it needs to be manually entered.
2) Can it delete the raw data after it has been transcoded?
3) For the “download every day at time”, how is this run, do I need to keep the user logged in with the application running? Is there a way to set it as a scheduled task etc.?
4) There is no “stop” button.

Thanks,

Nick

One more to add. The default save name of the past "batch downloader" used year-month-day, which was very helpful for sorting (i.e. I can look at the list of all the files, and it will then sort by date by default.) When sorting the way it does now, it is month-day-year, and while that is how most people write things, when sorting through thousands of files, over multiple years, it will get complex and difficult to sort.

Is this something that can be added as a feature/option?

Thanks,

Nick
