At adoption didn't know that GPO deployment was not supported. We have since deployed to 84 customer sites and 2000 client machines. Majority through GPO. We have a good number of client installations that are on old versions due to this initial deployment (says support). The "reinstall" command and "auto update" setting do nothing for these outdated machines. So I'll need to uninstall through GPO then redeploy, likely through logon script. I fear though this will either cause a lot of dupes, cause machines to drop off totally, and loose custom configurations like "Owned By".

Any recommendations or insights as how to go about this with the most success?

You can probably script an uninstall to drop the registry key with the clientID in it.... and perhaps pick that back up for reinstall....
Sometimes, when installers break, I load the "support" client on a machine, export that registry bit, and then uninstall and reinstall, but for 2k machines you may want that scripted.
